Acne is a multifactorial dermatosis, in the pathogenesis of which genetically determined hyperandrogenism and a genetically determined type of sebaceous secretion play an important role.

There are four main links in the pathogenesis of acne: increased production of sebum, excessive follicular hyperkeratosis, reproduction of Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes), inflammation.

Inflammation in acne is primary and precedes follicular hyperkeratosis, and P. acnes are actively involved in the formation of microcomedones.
