Health Tips for Tired Eyes (Eye Fatique)
Do you care about your dental health and visit the dentist regularly? Do you constantly exercise and keep yourself in good shape? Do you also take care of your vision? What are you doing to keep your eyes healthy? We must treat them with at least the same care and attention. We offer you several simple ways to strengthen your eye muscles and retina.
- Vitamins and nutritional supplements
These play a significant role in maintaining eye health and can help reduce the risk of developing certain diseases. They provide the nutrients needed to maintain healthy eye structure and optimal vision.
1a. Carrot
Traditional medicine doesn’t lie about carrots. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and it is from this that the human body produces vitamin A. It nourishes the retina and thus helps to improve visual perception. It also helps prevent night blindness and reduces the risk of age-related macular degeneration.
Let us add two important things. Firstly, carrots do not stand out among other natural products in terms of their effect on vision and they certainly do not prevent the development or worsening of diopter defects. And secondly, it is better to use it stewed, for example, in butter. Vitamin A is soluble only in fats, otherwise the body will not absorb it.
- Blink more often
The average person blinks five to fifteen times per minute. Every blink helps to rebuild the tear film which protects your eyes. At the same time the surface of the eye gets rid of a number of unwanted particles which constantly attack it – the dead cells, microorganisms and mechanical impurities from the external environment such as sand, dust, etc. When a person looks at a computer, his eyes practically do not blink. Therefore, take care of short pauses for intensive blinking. Don’t forget to blink at work if you work behind a monitor. Sensations of dryness, painful burning and redness of the eyes should be kept to a minimum.
- Two minutes of rest
Develop the habit of giving your eyes a few minutes of complete rest every hour. Close them and sit back comfortably. If you follow this rule constantly you will feel relief and improvement not only in relation to the condition of your eyes, but also your entire nervous system.
- Complete relaxation of the eyes – palming
So-called palming is used if the eye muscles are too tense and the previous procedure did not help to relax them. This method primarily helps to relax the optic nerve and restore the retina. Sit comfortably, close your eyes and cover your eyelids with your palms so that no light enters your eyes at all. Don’t move for about five minutes. Not only do the eyes relax during this procedure, but the cerebral cortex also calms down. Not only will vision improve, but mental performance, as well as memory and concentration.
- Daily massage
This habit should, in the good sense of the word, become a daily ritual. There are many types of massage and many ways to perform them. For example, an eye socket massage, in which you place your middle fingers on the bridge of the nose near the eye sockets and, with light pressure, massage down along the nose. Repeat about eight times. You can also massage the central part of your temples by moving your fingers up and down for one minute. You can also relieve eye conditions by pressing on the tender spots above the inner corners of the eye sockets – press lightly and release slowly after a while. Repeat five times.
- Look into the distance
After half an hour of continuous work with a monitor, go to the window and look as far into the distance as possible. Or if you have to work in cramped conditions go at least to the other end of an open space. This greatly relieves painful eye strain and even prevents the development of myopia.
- Exercise for very tired eyes
The following exercise should help you strengthen your eyelid muscles and relax your eye muscles:
Close your eyelids tightly and count to three in your head. Open your eyes, count to three again and close them tightly again. Repeat seven times. Finally, massage your tightly closed eyelids lightly using circular movements with your fingers.
- Eat spinach
Lutein (contained in spinach) especially stands out among other carotenoids for its beneficial effect on human vision. This antioxidant is associated in the human body specifically with the eyes – with the macula of the retina and with the lens of the eye. Lutein protects visual acuity, prevents macular degeneration and is a protective shield for vision. The richest sources of lutein are spinach, kale, carrots, cabbage, bell peppers and egg yolk.
- Blueberries will help you
Folk wisdom has long recommended not only carrot, but also blueberries. It is a real fact that the substances contained in blueberries (the so-called anthocyanins) restore the macula of the retina and sharpen vision, improve night vision and suppress night blindness. As a bonus this wild berry brings you endless other health benefits including the treatment of diabetes, gout and rheumatism and prevents urinary tract and bladder inflammation.
