 Potency: criteria of the norm and pathology

The word “potency” refers to the ability of the male body to lead a full sexual life. When speaking of potency we mean the following characteristics:

  • the degree of tension of the penis
  • the speed of erection
  • the ability to sustain an erection for the duration of sexual intercourse.

Norms and Age-Related Changes

So what is the norm for the average sexually mature man?

The correlation between the ability and need for sexual contact from three times a day to once a month to age is considered the norm in general.
Ideally a man is able to maintain erectile function throughout his life.
However, medical statistics show that at the age of between 40 and 45 men begin to experience certain problems with potency.

Psychological Comfort and Potency

Comprehensively examining erectile dysfunction in men of different age categories has allowed medicine to come to an unequivocal conclusion – optimal potency indicators are in direct correlation with the level of a man’s psychological comfort.
Stress often becomes the main causal factor in sexual dysfunction in men – the main one, but not the only one.

Signs of Potency Problems

The signs that indicate that there is a problem with potency or that it is brewing include:

  • decreased erection

  • deterioration in libido

  • early ejaculation.

Reversibility and Treatment

The good news for men is that in most cases potency problems are reversible.
But remember, the condition for the return of male potency is the timely diagnosis and proper treatment of the problem.
