Understanding Modern Stress
Modern life is full of daily stresses. This state can come from strong negative or even positive experiences. However, joyful euphoria (eustress) does not have the destructive effects of fears, anxieties, or conflicts (distress). Not everyone has enough stress resistance. So, we often feel the harmful effects of strong stress on our health. Can we learn to overcome stress without consequences? Is it possible to reduce negative experiences?
Distress has many symptoms. Experts divide them into three groups: emotional, psychosomatic, and behavioral.
Emotional signs of strong stress include:
- Bad mood.
- Feeling down or irritable.
- Restlessness.
- Fears or panic attacks.
- Apathy, or not caring about things that used to bring joy.
- Inability to focus on one task.
Learn Emotional Self-Support
The main rule to fight stress is to change how you see yourself. When we face problems and feel anxious, we often criticize ourselves. This happens even without reason. Chronic self-dissatisfaction, caused by outside factors, truly affects all parts of our lives. It is very harmful. It does not help in stressful times. Instead, it increases inner tension. Stop blaming yourself. Instead of criticism, offer encouragement. Change “As usual, I failed” to “It’s okay, it’s just a small mistake, I will try again.”
